Highs and lows of 2010

– founding out my grannie has cancer(last week!);
– being unable to finish my uni;
– had to move back home because I haven’t finished my uni
– not doing much else than hiding from life in general(no Bf, no job, no school, hating it, but having no real wish to change it)
It is/was a bad year, but I don’t want to dwell on it because I’ll just start to cry – so I’ll just continue with the positive things!


– Getting to spend more time with my half-brother, brother and mom(can be way too much, but this is just highs, so I’ll zip it)
– Spending a lot of time with my dog and BFF
– seeing my dear on-line friends
– getting my lifelong dream come true – braces!!!
Hopes for 2011;
– to remain healthy and to continue to battle my AA
– to move my ass and do something with my life
– to be happy with the results of my straight teeth
– to fall in love (I don’t care if it will be unhappy, I just want for something to happen!!)
– That all the babies that will be born are healthy and grow up happy

What is on my nightstand

Rereading J.R. Wards Lover Avenged – Honestly, I only ever reread Wrath and Zsadists stories, but I am so starved of reading, and I only read Rhevs story once, so…

I would survive if I would not read for 1218273 times that he wears a sable coat. And I don’t care how attracted they are supposed to be to each other, Ehlena is just too mellow.

I can not wait to read Xhex  and John Matthews story.

Love the banter between the brothers, and that angel guy, it’s hilarious 🙂
Now, as for the other book that I am reading for the first time, its’ Cherry Adair Out of sight. Except it’s In der Hitze der Wustensonne. Now, let me ask one thing, please; ; WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOOD ARE THEY STILL  PRINTING BODICE RIPPERS COVERS????????????????????????????’ WHY?????????????


So, if we look at those two covers of the same book, you might notice some difference. Like in one, the girl is a brunette and the other is ginger (she is a redhead in the book, so points for that). You see that 1001 night costume? Well, she wears combat boots 90% of the book.

He is wearing a pink robe. A pink robe. I am all in for the equality of the sexes, and would even be happy if he would wear one in the book and they would put that on the cover, but sadly, no, no pink robe in the book.

I hate to trash books. But this one, I just can not not trash!

They have sex on the camel saddle. 10 minutes later, they shoots over 10 men from the same camel. He rescues her from a prison, they have sex in the elevator 2 minutes after she undercover and he pulls her out. And we never read how she gets out. We also never hear how that frakking oasis with that hotel looks like. I there one pyramid or two??

These are just thinks that bug me this very minute. Oh, and after 10 hour trek in the desert, she lets him take of her shoes, socks and massage her feet. Before she even saw any water and soap. I am sorry, but…Eww.

Then we have the whole save the world plot, and quasi tortured H&h…I haveto say, no to this one! Even though, when I compare it to her Hide and seek, this is a masterpiece! And I reread Edge of darkness regularly, so I really want to like her books!

I really have to write more about books…

My grannies Xmas cookies; “the good ones that you make by rolling a sausage”

I am just retyping what I typed up a few years ago, and because I made them 3 days ago, I’ll add my thought on it afterwards.

250 g of sugar

250 g of grounded walnuts

3 eggs

60 g of breadcrumbs.

You mix it all together. You form a sausage with your hands, take a knife, and cut small, even pieces. You take each piece and roll it in your hands, so it becomes a ball. You put it in he oven, on 180 C for about 10 min. Check the bottoms. If they are black, you left them in for too long, your bad.

Easy pesy, right? Right.

Unless you ground the walnuts yourself, and they make the whole dough really really fatty. My aunt’s sugestion was to add just two eggs at first, and see if ifs moist enough – if not, you add the egg. If it’s too fatty, like in my case, add the breadcrumbs.

Because I didn’t add enough of breadcrumbs, and it was too messy to form a sausage, I just took two spoons and made scops of the dough on the making sheet. Honestly, I love them more when they are not evenly shaped!

me in new boots = blisters

me falling asleep in the middle of Love actually = wtf??

me stealing grannies xmas cookies recipes (just for a few days!) to retype them = smart idea

seeing my grannie being brave, patient and courageous a week after cancerous tumor removal = humbling

having Xmas with my family(grannie, uncle & fam+ us) – even though it’s nothing religious to me, just tradition = heartwarming

but also Shane West!

They are swimmers, and they have a speaking role! I was nicely surprised 🙂

Lemon cheesecake

This cake is a staple at our birthdays; untill now, my aunt was always the one doing it. But last week for my birthday, I wanted to make it. I messed up the gelatine measurements, but it was still very yummy. So, here it is!


  • 200g of flour
  • 120g of butter
  • 70g of sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 of lemon, grated


Cheese cream

  • 15 dag of gelatine
  • 250ml of milk
  • 200g of sugar
  • one whole lemon, grated
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 500g of cheese /Quark /curd cheese (honestly, I still don’t know how you call it)
  • 500ml of heavy cream 

 (measurements conversions here)

Now; this cake looks like that; one “circle” of pastry is on the bottom and one circle is one the top, but you cut that one in 8  “triangles” when the pastry is still warm and then place it on the top the next morning. Yeah, you do it in the evening, leave it over the night in a cool place, than finish it in the morning.

Ok, let’s start.

Mix the dough (Don’t give up. The measurements are right). Form a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, let it rest  for 2 hours in the refrigerator. (if you think that 20 min in refrigerator, 20 min in the freezer and 20 min back in refrigerator will work, because it’s 11 at night, you will be better just with 1 hour in the refrigerator. ) Divide dough in half,  roll it. Stretch it with your hands (heat it in the hands helps the butter to soften); the right size is the size of the model for the cake (or just a little little bit smaller – otherwise you won’t be able to fit it in the model). It is best to do it on baking paper which is then transferred to baking plate  and baked. SO; you have to make two round pastry circles. take it out when it starts to get golden about 10 min). You leave one to cool down. The other, wait 2 minutes, than cut it. I suggest 12 o’clock – 6 o’clock first; than 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock. (than 8 – 2, and 10 – 5, you get the picture). Be carefull. its fragile.

Part 2;

Soak gelatin in cold water. Put the milk, sugar, salt, grated lemon, egg yolks on the stove ( use big pan). During stirring (if you don’t stir, your eggs will go bad), bring to a boil, add gelatin and cool.

Whip the cream. Add curd (my aunt advise me to put it through this thingy, that I learned is called a heavy sheet potato masher, and looks like this.
Mix the cream+ curd mixture with gelatin+ milk+ sugar +salt+ grated lemon +egg yolks mixture (that you let cool down (doesn’t need to be cool, just as cool as you can wait it to be 🙂

Place cake base (the pastry that you left to cool) in the cake model; line the circumference of the model with baking paper and fill it with cream mixture.  Align and place overnight in the cold.

Remove the circumference of the model   and place the pieces of pie base #2 (that you cut in 8 pieces)  on top and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

So; I made it all sound very complicated; it is not; it is done in 4 steps; three in the evening and one in the morning.

First; make pastry and bake it. Second; mix and “cook” ingredients and add cheese ingredients; mix it. Third; place the pastry and fill it with the creamy mixture. Let it cool.

Forth; place the pastry triangles. See, ain’t that hard!!
